The First Friday Art Walk 2026 Guide

The First Friday Art Walk 2026 is when Denver’s creative heart beats its loudest. On the first Friday of every month, the Art District on Santa Fe turns into a lively stretch of open galleries, street musicians, local makers, food stalls, pop-up exhibits, and thousands of people wandering in search of inspiration.

It’s vibrant, expressive, and wonderfully chaotic.

And if you’re the type who comes home from an art walk inspired enough to rearrange your frames, swap pieces with friends, or hang new prints right away… you already know what happens next: putty marks, wall scuffs, and anything that is far away from clean.

This guide gives you everything you need for First Friday Art Walk 2026: what to see, where to go, and how to erase those wall marks after your art-swap night at home.

What Is the First Friday Art Walk 2026?

The First Friday Art Walk is one of Denver’s longest-running cultural traditions, held monthly along the famed stretch of Santa Fe Drive. The 2026 art walks continue to highlight local painters, photographers, and handmade goods, amongst many other kinds of art.

It’s free, casual, inclusive, and a perfect showcase of Denver’s vibrant creative community. People go to this monthly event to buy art, but even if you’re not after that, you can still people-watch, discover new artists, or simply soak up the energy. The First Friday Art Walk always promises something memorable.

Top Things to Do at First Friday Art Walk

There’s more to the First Friday Art Walk than browsing galleries. You can also enjoy a full evening of culture sensory experiences. Here’s what you shouldn’t miss:

A. Explore Open Galleries & Studios

Walk from gallery to gallery and discover hundreds of works. There are abstract paintings, ceramics, photography, mixed media, and more. Many artists are on-site and open to conversation.

“Enjoy whimsical and engaging art in a friendly gallery environment,” said Niza Knoll Gallery. The welcoming atmosphere invites visitors to linger, explore, and connect with the creative energy behind each piece.

D’art Gallery adds its own distinctive flair to the scene. “D’art Gallery is a contemporary art space featuring 5 galleries full of a lively selection of art and we’re conveniently located in the heart of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe,” they said.

Kanon Collective has been part of Denver’s vibrant arts scene for over 20 years. Our space in the Art Hub at 40 West features work by local artists and shares the block with five other galleries. First Friday Art Walks are a great way for the community to connect with the artists behind the work and experience the cultural vitality of our district,” the art collective said.

Meanwhile, Bitfactory is a contemporary gallery and studio space dedicated to showcasing emerging, up-and-coming, and outsider artists, providing a platform for creative voices that challenge convention and explore new perspectives.

B. Join an Art Swap or Pop-Up Market

Local makers often host spontaneous art swaps where you can trade prints, stickers, postcards, or small pieces with other attendees.

C. Listen to Live Street Performances

Musicians line the streets with acoustic sets, jazz, indie performances, and drum circles that keep the district alive all night.

D. Grab a Bite from Local Food Trucks

Although food trucks may not be present all year-round, you’ll find that you can find street tacos, gourmet desserts, and a wide variety of delicious treats during the event.

“South Broadway is a great place to cool off during First Friday, especially with inventive ice cream flavors located just steps from the galleries. We simply ask visitors to dispose of spoons and napkins in a trash can right away so the art walk remains enjoyable for everyone,” according to Sweet Action.

E. Take a Photo Walk Through the Murals

The art isn’t only in the galleries. Santa Fe Drive’s outdoor murals are constantly evolving. Every visit brings something new to see (and photograph).

Just a short hop away, creativity takes another form. “Browse used and new titles in the historic Highlands. Please handle the older books with care to preserve their bindings,” said the West Side Books. Like the murals, each shelf holds its own visual and cultural surprise.

After Art-Swap Night: How to Erase Putty & Wall Scuffs

Art Walk inspiration doesn’t end in the streets of Santa Fe Drive. You usually bring them at home, with a wall refresh, newly framed prints, or some impulsive redecorating.

That’s when the scuffs appear.

Here’s how to restore your walls without damaging paint or leaving marks behind.

Step One: Remove Putty Residue Gently

Roll any leftover poster putty using your fingers in a small circular motion.

Fresh putty grabs old putty, so press a clean piece onto the residue and lift. This is the safest way to remove it without harming the wall.

Avoid scraping with fingernails or sharp tools as they can scratch the paint or leave shiny spots.

Step Two: Use a Mild Cleaner for Light Smudges

If you see gray smudges or fingerprints left from the art swap, mix a gentle cleaner:

  • Warm water
  • A drop of mild dish soap

Dip a soft microfiber cloth into the mixture, wring it thoroughly, and wipe the wall in slow, small circles.

Too much water can leave streaks, so keep the cloth damp and not wet.

Step Three: Try a Magic Eraser for Tough Marks

For stubborn putty shadows or deeper scuffs, lightly dampen a melamine sponge (Magic Eraser) and buff the area with gentle, even pressure. These sponges are slightly abrasive, so go slow.

If the paint starts to dull, stop using the magic eraser. Simply switch back to a cloth-and-soap method.

Step Four: Dry & Inspect the Area

Blot the cleaned spot with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent water marks.

Step back and check the wall from different angles because some smudges only show in certain lighting. If the mark persists, a second light pass with your chosen method usually finishes the job.

Step Five: Prevent Marks Next Time

A few small swaps can prevent wall scuffs during future art nights, especially since it happens every month:

  • Use removable, paint-safe adhesive strips instead of putty
  • Place felt pads behind frames or canvases
  • Keep a small wall-care kit at home (microfiber cloth, mild soap, Magic Eraser)

A little prep means way less touch-up cleaning!

If your last art-swap night left your walls looking more “abstract” than intended, Roochii  Cleaning can help. Our wall spot-cleaning and home refresh services remove:

  • Putty residue
  • Black scuffs
  • Dust trails
  • Frame outlines
  • Fingerprints

Your home deserves to look as good as the art you hang.
